Author's Guidelines

These guidelines provide detailed instructions for manuscript preparation and submission to Datokarama English Education Journal, in accordance with the journal's academic and stylistic standards. Authors must ensure their manuscripts follow these requirements to proceed through the editorial and peer-review process.

1. Scope and Article Types

Submissions must align with the journal's focus in English Language Education (ELE), English Language Teaching (ELT), Linguistics, or Literature. Accepted manuscript types include:

  • Original Research Articles (empirical or theoretical)
  • Review Articles (systematic review or meta-analysis)
  • Short Communications
  • Interview-Based Papers (with academic relevance)

2. Manuscript Structure

Each manuscript must include the following sections, in order:

  • Title (max. 15 words): Descriptive, clear, and without acronyms or abbreviations.
  • Abstract (150–200 words): A concise, self-contained summary with no citations.
  • Keywords (3–5): Separated by semicolons.
  • Introduction: Contextualizes the research, states the problem, reviews key literature, and presents the research objective.
  • Literature Review (if not embedded in the Introduction): Highlights gaps in the field and theoretical framework.
  • Methodology: Clearly describes the research design, participants, instruments, procedures, and data analysis.
  • Results: Presents findings in a logical sequence using figures/tables where appropriate.
  • Discussion: Interprets findings with reference to existing literature.
  • Conclusion: Summarizes key insights and highlights implications, limitations, and future directions.
  • References: Follow APA 7th Edition format strictly.
  • Appendices (if applicable): Supplementary materials.

3. Formatting Requirements

  • Language: English (British or American, consistent throughout).
  • File Format: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx).
  • Length: 3000–5000 words (excluding references and appendices).
  • Font and Size: Garamond 12 pt.
  • Spacing: 1 line spacing.
  • Paper Size: B5 (JIS).
  • Paragraphs: Indent 0.5 inch (1.27 cm), left-aligned.
  • Headings: Use heading levels 1–3 consistently.
  • Tables and Figures:
    • Numbered sequentially (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1)
    • Caption below figures and above tables
    • Must be cited in the text
    • Avoid duplicating information in both text and visuals

4. Citation and Referencing

Use APA 7th Edition for all in-text citations and references. Authors are encouraged to use reference management software (e.g., Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote). Ensure:

  • Minimum 20 references (or 25–30 for longer articles)
  • At least 30% of references are recent (last 5 years)
  • Prefer scholarly journal articles over websites or textbooks
  • All sources cited in-text are included in the reference list

5. Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online system. Authors must register and log in as “Author” to submit. During submission, authors must:

  • Upload the manuscript file
  • Enter all required metadata
  • Provide conflict of interest declarations
  • Confirm adherence to ethical standards and formatting guidelines

6. After Submission

Authors can monitor the review status via their account. The editorial decision will be based on double-blind peer review. Accepted manuscripts may undergo copyediting and layout editing prior to publication.

7. Ethical Compliance and Copyright

By submitting a manuscript to deeJournal, authors affirm that:

  • The submission is original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Ethical research practices have been followed, including informed consent and appropriate treatment of human subjects (if applicable).
  • Any potential conflicts of interest are disclosed in the manuscript.
  • The corresponding author assumes responsibility for communication with the journal.
  • Upon acceptance, authors agree to license their work under the journal’s open-access terms and permit publication and indexing by third-party databases.

Authors must include a “Competing Interests” declaration at the end of the manuscript before the references. If none exist, please state: "The authors declare no competing interests."

8. Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting your manuscript to Datokarama English Education Journal, please ensure the following:

  • Originality and Exclusivity
    • ☐ This manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere.
    • ☐ All sources are properly cited and the similarity index (if checked via software) is acceptable.
  • Manuscript Formatting
    • ☐ The manuscript uses the deeJournal Template and complies with formatting instructions (font, spacing, citation style).
    • ☐ Word count is within the required range (3000–5000 words excluding references).
  • Structural Completeness
    • ☐ All required sections are included in correct order: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, References.
    • ☐ The abstract is 150–200 words and does not contain citations.
  • Referencing and Style
    • ☐ APA 7th Edition style is used consistently for in-text citations and references.
    • ☐ Minimum of 20 scholarly references, at least 30% from the last 5 years.
  • Figures and Tables
    • ☐ All figures and tables are numbered, captioned, and cited appropriately.
    • ☐ Visuals are necessary, clear, and free from duplication with the text.
  • Declarations and Ethics
    • ☐ A Competing Interests statement is included at the end of the manuscript.
    • ☐ Ethical approvals or disclosures are provided if applicable.
  • Authorship Confirmation
    • ☐ All authors have reviewed and approved the final version.
    • ☐ The corresponding author is clearly designated and contactable.
